Greetings, intrepid readers, and welcome to another all-new look to bigjim.com! After some careful thought into how to best redesign my site, I impulsively chose a new "theme" built exclusively for the latest version of WordPress, the marvelous publishing tool that allows me and countless others to host their own blogs and do it with all the style and appeal of major publishers–in fact, WordPress is so good that CNN employs it! (note the credit on the footer)
But enough of that. This theme offers a tremendous amount of customization available to me that doesn’t require any extensive knowledge of code–which is good, ‘cuz I’m a few thousand algorithms short of competent. The other is the ability for the reader to customize their own view of the blog.
I want to draw your attention to two tiny buttons at the top-right hand side of every post–a diamond and a square. Clicking the diamond button will expand the post window to the right, making the sidebar disappear. Another click returns it to the normal view. Clicking the diamond button will collapse the post to just its header, while another click will expand it to its full size. Hopefully, these tools will make viewing and reading my stuff easier.
Another new feature just added is a tool that permits you to view images in what’s called a "multibox"–a multimedia container that can work with still images as well as video formats, Flash, and a host of other kinds of visual content. I just think it’s a cook way to view a picture without having to move away from my site or open a new browser window. (BTW, a right click on the image link will still let you do that!) There’s only one small hitch that I have found so far–any image placed near the header banner seems to go under it when the multibox is opened, obscuring the "x" in the top-right corner used to close the image. If you simply click outside the image anywhere, the same result will occur. Hopefully, I will work to avoid this from occuring.
I hope that these changes do enhance your enjoyment of my blog. Thanks for reading, and please let me know what you think!
Jim
