There’s big news in the World According To Big Jim–it seems as the whole bigjim.com domain may be leaving me.  I’ve received an offer to sell the domain for more money than it’s ever made me in the entire 12 years I’ve owned it.  So, somewhat reluctantly, I’ve decided to go ahead and take the dough–sellout that I am.

The good news here is that nothing but the name will change.  www.bigjimdonovan.com will be the new home of Big Jim, and everything will go on as before.  This may be happening quite quickly, but the new domain owner has promised to post a link to my new site and keep it there for a month.  Watch this space for developments.

Greetings and apologies for the recent dearth of fresh silly material here.  I have no excuse, other than laziness.  You can call it a vacation if you feel extra generous!

At least I have some pretty cool news to share.  If it’s been your life’s dream to be able to keep up with the crazy antics of this ongoing experiment into lowest-common-denominator character assassination (?), even when you’re away from your desktop or laptop–your moment is at hand!  You can now access the world of Big Jim via your web-enabled phone, thanks to a new feature that automatically converts this site to a more mobile-friendly size automatically.  As you might imagine, it’s somewhat simplified, but it works very nicely without a huge download or hard-to-navigate pages. Again, you don’t have to do anything special to access it–just type in "bigjim.com" into your address bar, and a bite-size Big Jim Donovan blog will appear before your very eyes.

Give it a try and let me know what you think!

Greetings, intrepid readers, and welcome to another all-new look to bigjim.com!  After some careful thought into how to best redesign my site, I impulsively chose a new "theme" built exclusively for the latest version of WordPress, the marvelous publishing tool that allows me and countless others to host their own blogs and do it with all the style and appeal of major publishers–in fact, WordPress is so good that CNN employs it! (note the credit on the footer)

But enough of that.  This theme offers a tremendous amount of customization available to me that doesn’t require any extensive knowledge of code–which is good, ‘cuz I’m a few thousand algorithms short of competent.  The other is the ability for the reader to customize their own view of the blog.

I want to draw your attention to two tiny buttons at the top-right hand side of every post–a diamond and a square.  Clicking the diamond button will expand the post window to the right, making the sidebar disappear.  Another click returns it to the normal view. Clicking the diamond button will collapse the post to just its header, while another click will expand it to its full size.  Hopefully, these tools will make viewing and reading my stuff easier.

Another new feature just added is a tool that permits you to view images in what’s called a "multibox"–a multimedia container that can work with still images as well as video formats, Flash, and a host of other kinds of visual content.  I just think it’s a cook way to view a picture without having to move away from my site or open a new browser window. (BTW, a right click on the image link will still let you do that!)  There’s only one small hitch that I have found so far–any image placed near the header banner seems to go under it when the multibox is opened, obscuring the "x" in the top-right corner used to close the image.  If you simply click outside the image anywhere, the same result will occur.  Hopefully, I will work to avoid this from occuring.

I hope that these changes do enhance your enjoyment of my blog.  Thanks for reading, and please let me know what you think!

I’m once again having a few problems being able to focus on creating the kind of high-quality goofiness you’ve come to expect from me, thanks to folks working in my studio busily installing new duct work for our building.  The eventual outcome of their work will be greatly appreciated by me and my co-workers; their present activities are driving me crazy!  It’s all I can do to focus on the job at hand–adequately entertain my listeners.

I will attend to this later in the day, and am hopeful that it will be posted post haste.  I will work on updates to the audio archive–its level of focus is much more realistic at present…

I’m finding it a little difficult to complete my daily postings due to an ongoing remodeling project underway at the radio station, which has invaded my workspace for the time being.  Considering the fact that I am supposed to be left alone to do my thing, it is just a little bit more distracting than I would like.  Just thought I should advise the thousands who hang on my every word that they will have to be ever so patient to get another taste.  I hope to have it available later today.  Carry on…
