Greetings all–

A quick note just so you know I’m on vacation next week, so don’t look for any new content–that is, unless I get REALLY bored.  Other than that, I should begin regular posting again July 7.

Have a safe and happy 4th!

Jim

Just a quick post to let you know that I don’t know when I’ll have regular postings published, since I’m having weather issues at work.  What that means is that severe weather sets off an alert system we use at radio stations to keep listeners apprised of what’s going on.  In our case in Central New York, a tornado watch and severe thunderstorm warning–whee!  In turn, schools around the area are reacting to the news by closing early and cancelling a variety of after school/evening programs.  I have to monitor weather changes as well as update my audience with school closings/cancellations.  It is keeping busier than the perverbial one-legged man.  With luck, I’ll have some stuff to post, but as we speak I’m receiving yet another weather-related alert which I must now address…Toodle-loo…

If it’s true that the only constant is change, then it’s time for some consistency for this thing I call bigjim.com.

When I launched this blog using the incredible power of WordPress (they totally rule!), I wanted the site to resemble the look I had pre-WordPress.  It was more of a traditional site with pages for various types of content.  I incorporated that approach by segregating the daily humorous content I wrote from any other blog posts I would write, believing that those posts should be a special destination for the reader.

After some reflection (not to mention too darn few other posts, despite efforts to the contrary), it occured to me that the daily content that I work so hard to provide (and enjoy writing so much) ought to be featured just as prominently as anything else I happen to create.  So I’m going to try this thing a bit differently.  As of today, posts will show up on the home page as they are created, with more unique titles than the "So What’s So Funny About The News" and "Showbiz Stuff" headers I had been using for the regular daily stuff.  Hopefully, it will make the content more interesting, more readable, and more accessible.

I think it turns out that I’m sharing whatever voice it is that I have in what I am writing each day–a pretty good reason as to why I wasn’t able or interested in writing too much else.  Believe me–when I have something to say, it will be here.  That’s the point, right?  Thanks for reading.

Greetings intrepid reader!

The new site continues to grow and devlop–mostly with content–but with the occasional new feature or two.  Today marks the debut of the "Tag cloud", a tool bloggers and those who read them are no doubt familiar.  It’s sort of a graphical way to display various subjects and themes from my postings using ‘tags" or search terms.  In each post that I write, I include a number of tags that relate to the post’s content.  They will all appear in the "tag cloud", with text size in relation to how often that tag is used.  In my case, Britney Spears is the largest tag by far (what a surprise, right?) because of the number of tags used in my posts.  Hopefully it makes sense–the thing threw me for a loop at first, but I’m catching on.

I’m working my way towards opening new posts to comments, and with it what I hope will be a fun exchange between us.  Please keep returning and reading this stuff–it’s the main reason I take the time to write it.  Have a great MLK Day…

Greetings all,

I hope you’re enjoying the site and are finding everything you are seeking here.  I do plan to provide the opportunity for feedback, but I admit to being much more accustomed to one-way communication.  Once I feel the look and functionality of the site is the way I would like it to be, I will open the floodgates to all of your words of wisdom.  I am hopeful that will occur sometime this month, OK?

Big Jim
