  • A spokesman for a Memphis hospital says Morgan Freeman has been released as he continues to recover from surgery on his left arm and hand injured in a car accident Sunday night, and in a statment Freeman says he’s doing well and in good spirits.  Considering he could be in a box inside a very cold room, he should be dancing a jig–if they’d only let him…
  • The Dark Knight continues to be a white knight for Warner Brothers, who announced that their latest Batman film has taken in over $400 million at the box office in just 18 days–smashing the previous record set by Shrek 2, which took over 3 weeks longer to hit that milestone.  Many are coming to see the late Heath Ledger’s performance as The Joker, which looks to be one heck of a finale for him…

Chris Brown is working with Survivor creator Mark Burnett on a new dance competition series based on street dancing, with Chris in every episode to help determine which dancers move on to later rounds.  So will this mean that contestants will get voted off the corner?

Producer extraordinare Timbaland plans another Shock Value CD and says he has another group of superstars lined up to contribute, as Tim elaborates: "Right now, I have a song with MADONNA that I didn’t put on her album. I saved [it]…of course, I’m [gonna] do [a song] with BEYONCÉ. Of course, I’m [gonna] do one with JORDIN SPARKS, RIHANNATHE JONAS BROTHERS. I’m [gonna] try to have 10 major ones."  The only thing he left out:  of course it’s gonna be huge…

Katy Perry’s I Kissed A Girl has spent 5 weeks atop Billboard’s Hot 100.  And no, that does not mean she spent 5 weeks on top of the chart kissing a girl…

After anti-smoking advocacy groups informed Alicia Keys that there was a tobacco sponsor for her July 31 concert in Indonesia, she announced that she was able to have, "corrective actions be taken," adding, "I’m an unyielding advocate for the well-being and health of children around the world and do not condone or endorse smoking…I look forward to spreading my positive message to my wonderful fans in [Indonesia]."  So does your butt hurt more or less after a "corrective action"?

The Jonas Brothers have set a digital download record by being the first act with 3 consecutive songs that have sold more than 100,000 downloads each. I just want to know how many are their fans and how many are their fans’ moms…

The natives are restless at the Screen Actors Guild, currently at a standstill in negotiabtions over a new contract with producers, with a number of unhappy members working to get a majority of the union’s national board seats which will be elected in September.  I’m guessing there are a few folks hoping this will keep them all quite busy–and far away from other elections…

  • Katy Perry didn’t waste any time taking I Kissed A Girl to the top, where she not only went to #1 on the Billboard chart made a bit of history as well.  Her song became the 1,000th "Hot 100" #1 in what is commonly known as the "rock era"–which began with Rock Around The Clock hitting the top spot in 1955…
  • Auditions for season 8 of American Idol will get underway soon, with a first session in San Francisco July 17–get the complete schedule from the official American Idol website.  Producers hope they will find the next Kelly, Carrie, Daughtry, Jordin or David–and pray they don’t turn into Reuben, Fantasia, or Taylor…
  • Madonna’s concert promotor Live Nation quashed any rumors about poor sales for her Sticky And Sweet tour, announcing Thursday that she has sold over a million tickets so far–representing 90 percent of all available seats for the tour.  So far, she’s sold out dates in New York, Boston, Chicago, Denver, Houston, Las Vegas, Toronto, Montreal, Paris and Mexico City–and, if reports are true, her husband as well…
  • Amy Winehouse admits in a Rolling Stone interview that while she was in rehab at her record company’s request, she, quote, "did drugs the whole time".  Well, that’s certainly a step in the right direction…
  • Mr. "Mini-Me" Verne Troyer has struck back at an effort to release a sex tape of him and an ex-girlfriend, filing a $20 million violation-of-privacy and copyright-infringement suit against tabloid website TMZ for airing portions of the tape on their site and TV show.  How embarassing it must be for him, imagining people watching him like that and saying, "How can he do that without falling down?"
  • Paris Hilton has reportedly made a "generous" donation toward the construction of a new medical building on the site of LA’s Children’s Hospital, where she volunteered following her jail sentence last year.  This is either the effect of her romance with Good Charlotte’s Benji Madden, or a mistaken attempt to buy some shoes…

  • Rihanna continues to insist that she and Chris Brown are just friends, telling ABC’s The View on Monday, "We are not dating"–meanwhile, gossip reports quote Chris’ mom as saying, "Rihanna is the sweetest and sexiest girl Chris has ever dated."  These two are not dating about as much as J-Lo wasn’t pregnant…
  • Katy Perry of I Kissed A Girl fame has definitely got boys on her mind, as Travis McCoy of Gym Class Heroes told a reporter that he bought her a "promise ring" and that he wears a silver band with "Katy" inscribed on it.  That is definitely cute, but I was sort of expecting matching nose rings or tattoos…
  • The slow housing market has affected Usher’s plans to sell his Atlanta home–he’s cut the asking price $300,000 to an even $2 million.  Maybe if he offered to do a couple of free shows for the new owners, he could seal the deal…
  • Amy Winehouse’s dad Mitch has backed off his claim that she has early-stage emphysema, telling BBC Radio Monday that she has "traces of emphysema…obviously if she doesn’t quit smoking, it’s gonna get worse".  This is either spin from her publicist, or Pops is hitting the pipe too…
  • Even more photographers have come forward to say they were also attacked by a group of surfers while trying to get shots of Matthew McConaughey riding the waves.  McConauahey reportedly had nothing to do with the alleged altercation–unless they thought he was serious about giving them parts in Jaws 4
  • An Idaho judge has thrown out a $2.5 million lawsuit filed by Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson, who claimed the contractor who built their home made numerous "design deficiencies, errors and omissions".  They plan to appeal the decision–I’m pretty sure Hanks has no interest in having his own real-life Money Pit sequel…
