- Exxon Mobil has reported that its 2007 profit was $40.6 billion–the largest ever by a US company. What a coincidence–that’s about what it now costs to fill up my gas tank…
- New York City is cracking down on cab drivers who refuse to accept credit card payments by sending out undercover investigators posing as tourists. It could work–as long as they keep their city-issued cards in their pockets…
- Senate Democrats plan to force a vote next week on the House-passed economic stimulus bill in order to add rebates for senior citizens and disabled veterans as well as heating aid for the poor. They still insist the bill will be passed on time–because they know the alternative means no time for them…
- Microsoft has made an unsolicited offer to buy Yahoo! for almost $45 billion. If I were one of their stockholders watching its plummeting price, I’d say "Yahoo!" too…
- A fire a Las Vegas casino last week was likely caused by molten metal flying off a cutting torch used by construction crews there. So there is no truth to the rumor that it was because Pairs Hilton said "That’s hot" one too many times…
