  • Talk of Michael Jackson performing in Las Vegas is heating up, with the investment firm that helped him hold on to his Neverland ranch considering at least one way that Jacko can repay them–by working one of the hotel-casinos they own there.  I would urge caution, especially if they’re planning any "kid-friendly" improvements…
  • Lindsay Lohan has asked to be removed from consideration for an Emmy Award nominaton for best guest actress in a comedy series, with a spokesperson saying, "her appearance was brief" in ABC’s Ugly Betty.  It’s probably because the rebah facility she expects to be in by then has a very strict off-campus policy…
  • I read that Lance Armstrong, who’s currently seeing Kate Hudson, took her to a New York restaurant with a reputation for a long waiting list and tried to get seated without a reservation–but to no avail.  All I can say is that I wouldn’t want to be that maitre d’, taking a casual bike ride thru Central Park anytime soon…

  • Both Beyonce and her rap mogul husband Jay-Z made the Top Ten in Forbes’ annual Celebrity 100 list, with B at #4 and Jigga in at #7.  They may both be wearing the pants in that family–but whose have the deepest pockets?

  • Grey’s Anatomy star Katherine Heigl took the unusual step of withdrawing from Emmy consideration, saying in a statement that, "I did not feel that I was given the material this season to warrant an Emmy nomination…".  She shouldn’t worry–I’m sure the writers will give her some great stuff for her death scene next season…

  • The New York Post has named Mariah Carey and Beyonce to their list of the city’s 50 most powerful women.  Beyonce’s stock is likely rising due to getting hitched to Jay-Z, while Mariah gets props for marrying someone who will never upstage her…
  • Miley Cyrus isn’t alone in representing her family on the pop charts–her half-brother Trace is a member of the band Metro Station that also has a song on the Billboard Hot 100.  Trace says his half-sis has been very supportive of his band’s success–just as long as he doesn’t out-sell her…
  • Jessica Simpson told People magazine that her sister Ashlee will not just be a good mom, "She’ll be amazing, absolutely amazing."  I think she’s just so grateful that it wasn’t her instead…
  • Amy Winehouse managed to show up for the first day of her husband’s trial for assault and witness tampering–four hours late.  It’s understandable–it takes time to score dope around a courthouse…
  • Sunday’s fire at Universal Studios has been ruled an accident by fire officials, who say it was caused by workers using a blowtorch to repair one of the back-lot sets that were destroyed.  I gotta wonder if the phrase "you’ll never work in this town again" came up at all…

  • Madonna previewed her new album Hard Candy for fans last night at an exclusive New York show,  featuring Madge trading moves with Justin Timberlake on her hit 4 Minutes and generally not moving like most 49-year-old mothers of 3 do.  Considering the number of F-bombs she dropped, she’s not talking like one either…
  • People Magazine’s annual 100 Most Beautiful People list is out and it features Taylor Swift, Rihanna, Mary J. Blige, Christina Aguilera, Pink, Alicia Keys, Miley Cyrus and Kelly Clarkson.  Why that guy Hurley from Lost didn’t get picked, I’ll never know…
  • Daughtry is getting serious in the competition for the best-selling American Idol contestant, as sales of his self-titled debut CD just hit 4 million.  Only Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood have sold more so far–and yes, he did lose to Taylor Hicks
  • Mariah Carey’s E=MC2 topped the album charts for a second week in a row, but it’s likely to be unseated by the debut of Madonna’s Hard Candy, which is on target to sell about 300,000 copies.  The last time these two were ruling the charts we all liked Bill Clinton
  • David Blaine held his breath in a water-filled sphere for just over 17 minutes on The Oprah Winfrey Show yesterday, setting a world’s record.   What surprises me is that Simon Cowell of American Idol fame hasn’t tried this–he’s a big bag of wind
  • Tom Cruise is in talks to star in a fourth Mission: Impossible film.  The premise is a simple one–he has to convince the world that Katie Holmes really loves him and has not been brainwashed by Scientology
